My first rally in Newport Beach

Spring has sprung and this little conservagay has emerged from his winter refreshed and energized. I was browsing the interwebs for something political to do that coincided with my work schedule and found a little “Trump” Rally in Newport Beach. Being at least and hour from any significant body of water I cleared my schedule prepped my clothes and set off to my first political event of the year.

Having only participated in local events with a small chapter, I had never stood in public with others in a group. Emerging from the car was wrought with anticipation from, will I be the only gay person? Will anyone be mean as I walk to the pier? I think I’ll be okay as long as I stand with my husband….

Within moments of arriving any and all fears or apprehension disappeared as Trump flags came into view. Red hats bobbed among the heads and there were smiles everywhere. I had bright yellow box braids, an Armed California shirt, and a rainbow Trump button to show my support. Before I knew what was happening, people were asking to take pictures, do interviews, and all the while I thought, “Why is this my first time doing this?”

A random gentleman was passing out freshly purchased doughnuts, and another with a box of Starbucks coffee for anyone wanting a pick me up. I made introductions with several social media personalities and after a walk up and down the pier with other patriots, I knew I wanted to do this again.
