Since I started my journey as a cultural activist one local name stood out above the rest. This man wasn’t afraid to stand beside a controversial figure like me to show acceptance and tolerance of another human being. We all follow very different paths, but one thing remains the same, when they intersect this person doesn’t doesn’t ignore you.
The smallest voice in the room is never ignored because he wants to hear what you have to say. His common sense approach allows him to relate with more than a single demographic because he actually listens. Our city gains nothing when every bill proposed by a select few is passed either behind closed doors, or without debate. Ideas are meant to be challenged and discussed because every decision our elected leaders make affects our lives.
Lancaster and Palmdale are sisters, but more often our leaders act like enemies. Lancaster needs leaders who will deliberate and work with surrounding communities, not point fingers when our neighbors succeed. Lancaster imposes regulations that drive business in and out of the Boulevard but one thing remains the same, our council. Call them good ole boys, call them extensions of the mayor, but call them out for what they are, groupthink. Jeremiah Westbrook is none of these and as an independent voice he has shown me that he has the qualities needed to challenge the status quo.
That’s why I’m officially endorsing Jeremiah Westbrook for Lancaster city council. He is truly the change Lancaster needs.
As an Antelope Valley resident of 30 years, the old guard has shown us how to waste money on a Boulevard that struggles to retain entrepreneurs and how to suppress home ownership with burdensome regulations (Palmdale reaches the top tier at #4 and Lancaster closes out the top 20 at #16). Our Valley is ready for a different direction; our valley is ready for Jeremiah Westbrook.
