Home sweet home

As fall descends on our nation and trees change colors, my home of Palmdale relishes in the cooler mountain air that chills the warm valley. Along with the winds of change, my home begins the process of decorating for the coming seasons, Halloween and Christmas being the largest and most important notable.

As I began my unloading of all things fall and Christmas from the rafters, it had already been decided that this year was going to be unique. Every Halloween was a different setup and last year’s theme of Day of the Dead was in my opinion, epic. October heralds more than just a changing season, it’s also Hispanic heritage month and when I visit my husband’s family in Missouri.

Decorating for the season is a tradition in our house and this year we decided to “cheat”. By using the inspiration “The Nightmare Before Christmas” I can decorate the house and change spiders to snowflakes when Christmas season arrives. I’m not looking forward to the teardown, but who does?

The harvest season is a time for gathering with friends and relatives and it’s capped with the most joyous celebration of all, Christmas. People also become less angry and a bit more altruistic for a moment every year. And, let’s be honest Thanksgiving is mostly American as the rest of the world skips the celebration altogether. Whatever you celebrate, take a moment to reflect on your summer adventures and prepare for longer nights because being home feels like nothing else. Home is where you are warm and loved; Whoever that family may be.
