I’ve been as loud as my 5’3″ body can be since 2001 about my politics and I’m a very unique demographic. I’m a gay Hispanic who’s a child of Mexican parents and a grandchild of American Grandfathers. My family has immigrated to this country and I found my voice in the conservative movement at the age of 21.
When I matured and returned to Palmdale 2009 I saw a very large void in the gay community. I tried to give them a voice by revitalizing the local bar scene and was ostracized for my conservative approach that was working for the business, but not the community that wanted to party for free.
At the same time I introduced myself to the Republican community of the Antelope Valley and was met with warm embrace. They loaned me booth materials and I proudly stood in the scorching sun for hours talking to LGBT people about the republican party to register voters. Most walked by and laughed or ignored me like I wasn’t there. All this time, I quietly amassed a group of friends online through various secret conservative LGBT groups that I moderated because they needed a voice too.
I pressed on and thought to help the community with their center as it started faltering due to reports of inappropriate relationships with minors by the board. I and my husband orchestrated a beautiful pride celebration on an enclosed street that celebrated diversity of thought and lifestyle. We invited every organization and proudly can say that the NRA was at our celebration in 2016.
The Board of directors, aghast at the support for our decision has since refused to organize another event like ours and hosts small barbecues hosted by the center every year instead. I was asked to no longer help with planning and so I found a family of patriots who did want my voice.
Since then I’ve been pressing forward with my message, my flag, but most often with my patriot brothers and sisters (On/offline) who aren’t afraid to stand on the corner next to a man in stilettos.
As a queer person from the Deep South, I have to say……..you are one of the dumbest and delusion people I’ve ever run across on the internet. Your beliefs make you even more unattractive.
Obviously you haven’t read my blogs. I don’t need to be attractive to you because I’m not interested in what you think of me. I’m glad you have a voice and you can use it however you want, but when you call people names instead of engaging in thoughtful dialogue, you don’t do your position any favors.
Mario, the fact that you are so mature and rational makes me feel not so alone in the world. If you are ever in Abilene, look me up. I’ll buy you some coffee. 🙂
There are so many of us, but the world like to isolate those who would shine brightly if given the chance. If I’m ever that way, it’s a date!
Hi Mario! Are you around today, Sept 2nd? Election Integrity Project California can come to your area today & make a presentation to an interested group who wants to join our volunteer efforts! We are a non-partisan 5013c non-profit. http://www.eip-ca.com
EIPCa has excellent training for volunteers to become poll observers for elections.
We met in Santa Clarita at a meeting related to concerned citizens being active in the community.
Thanks! Missy
Actually, the EIPCa has already trained most of the Palmdale Freedom Coalition. Lea is our point of contact and we’re more than happy to get involved in protecting the integrity of our elections.
