The association of gay people and perversion of the youth is a stigma often whispered but rarely discussed. Headlines featuring athletic coaches, pastors, or peers inappropriately touching children often reinforces the prejudice that the LGBTQ community is preying on kids. Most gay/lesbian/bisexual adults live their adult lives away from the young and understand that sexuality is not a topic discussed with kids that are not their own. Gay parents especially understand the importance of acceptance among peers, but also the protection of innocence in their own children. Every demographic needs to speak up against the perversion happening to the youth of this nation because sexual trauma never fades.
Stories of the “Committed bachelor” or wearers of “Comfortable shoes” dot history and the day to day lives of most people. Gay men, women, and the sexually queer exist as a minority population within a greater world. Some feel that in order to fully experience the adult freedom afforded by this lifestyle, a space without children is necessary and the LGBTQ night scene provides the perfect opportunity. Regardless of sexuality, the bar and nightclub atmosphere operates under strict laws regarding the underage and places heavy penalties for violations. These spaces are not for children.
Sexual predators are in nightclubs, churches, and school campuses across the country. These individuals are not limited by gender, or sexual identity because we see women preying on boys, men preying on girls, and teens preying on each other. When caught, we see light sentencing by judges, and high recidivism.
When a person is sexually assaulted, they lose more than their innocence and therapy only goes so far. The world at large suffers when the youth is traumatized, and a grown person walking down the street naked holding only a rainbow flag is traumatizing, for anyone. Pride is no longer a place for families. Every demographic has one common thread, the future, and we Gays Against Groomers stand against anyone who willingly poisons, taints, or disrupts the natural flow of a person’s sexual identity.
